Not quite sure what was on this gentleman's agenda.
Spent one day in ER and 2 1/2 days in Intensive Care in Chillicothe, Mo. Left with four units of new blood cause that's all they could get.  But that's a Whole nother story.
Wife says I was still a quart low when we left.      Wonder what she meant by that ??

On the road again, being wheeled to the Scoot in the rain to continue the journey.
They would not allow me to walk to the bike but turned me loose at the door to get on the bike and ride away in the rain.

On the road again south of Hannibal, Mo.  H-79
Yep, that's steam coming off the road.
20 miles south of Hannibal H-79 was closed due to the highway falling off a hill into a valley.  This caused an eight mile detour through a wetlands (Swamp) in the rain on a gravel road. The official detour would have been 36 miles.
Entered Illinois from Louisiana.
Ferry crossing of the Illinois River.  This Trucker was concerned if we got off in front of him we would hold him up with our "Little Scooter".    We got off first, he never saw us again.   Guess that big truck couldn't do 75.
Halfway between Carlinville,Il & Litchfield we were approaching the biggest storm yet.  Stopped  to look at it and a Trooper came out of it and advised us to go back north.  We had already made that decision and run a couple of hundred yards back to an old barn the wife had spotted and hid in there till the winds & lightning let up.   Chased that storm to Litchfield and had to turn back a couple of time to let it get ahead of us.
When we got to Litchfield there was no power (no gas) and the streets were under water.  Waited about 30 min. for the water to recede and still had to go through two intersections in over a foot of water.  Many other streets were under water but not as deep.    Eight miles east we spent a hour sitting in the middle of the road due to a wreck in Hillsboro.  All the side roads were closed due to the storm so we couldn't go around.
Happiness is a "Welcome to Illinois" sign

Governor's Mansion     Jefferson City, Mo
While touring downtown Jefferson City we came across some blocked streets.  A large stage, several bands, old cars, streets filled with tables & chairs, beer gardens, etc.     Vee ask a young girl what the occasion was.   She said something like:

"Like, DUH, it's Thursday night !!"

Did I mention someone had moved some barricades and we accidentally rode between the band and the crowd  ?

It was recently discovered that sliced bread was first offered for sale - ever - in Chillicothe, Missouri. A product of the Chillicothe Baking Company, it was sliced on a machine called the Rohwedder Bread Slicer. Invented by Iowa inventor, Otto Rohwedder, the bread slicer was put into practice in 1928 in beautiful downtown Chillicothe.

First Stop of the day.
03 June 2010 we headed for Topeka, Ks. from Indiana. Stopped for a break and dinner in Jefferson City, Mo then continued on to Knob Noster, Mo to end the first day.  Approximately 407 miles.
The Navigator returning from a shopping trip in Topeka to replenish some supplies while I kicked back in the shade.
Spent two days in Lawrence, great downtown area, shops, food, etc.
I was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in "60" & "61".  This was another reason for this trip.  Revisiting old haunt's like Allen's Drive-in, Big Boy, (both gone) Burnetts Mound, Gage Park, Lake Shawnee, etc. and kicking up ghosts from the past.
Indiana - Headed for Topeka,Ks.
Somewhere on US 36 between Chillicothe, Mo. and Hannibal, Mo.
Got hit by a thunder storm with high winds while on the boat, it blew all the deck chairs
to the rear of the boat and they were digging out life vests for the kids on board.
We had a Great Trip and can't wait to get on the road again.
